As the nation celebrates its 244th birthday, protesters celebrated the country’s independence in the most anti-American way by burning and stomping on the U.S. flag.

On Saturday evening, Townhall reporter Julio Roses reported that a group of protesters had gathered outside of the White House to burn down a big American flag. While setting it ablaze, protesters chanted the phrase, “America was never great!”

In an earlier report from The Patriot Hill, protesters also jumped and stomped at the flag, screaming “f!ck the Fourth of July” and “f*ck the American flag.” They even had the audacity to dance Cha-Cha Slide on the flag with most of the attendees wearing the Black Lives Matter shirt. One was even caught encouraging others to desecrate the American flag.

The protests followed after President Donald Trump released a message in celebration of the American Independence. In his statement, the U.S. President said, “On this day in 1776, the Second Continental Congress adopted the United States Declaration of Independence in what is now known as Independence Hall in Philadelphia.” He continued, “Today, we celebrate our Nation’s independence and the vision of our Founding Fathers revealed to the world on that fateful day.”

This is not the first time that the flag came under attack. On Friday, authorities claimed that an American flag was removed from a construction site in Richmond, Virginia. According to Dena Potter, spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of General Services, she explained that they have to ask the contractor to take it down due to increasing incidents of vandals in buildings, structures, and the city’s Capitol Square. To add more damage, the city has also witnessed flags, buses, and dumpsters being set on fire as a part of the protest. Potter added, “we were concerned that it could become a target.”

The move had angered the contractor and as a response, Eric Winston of American Coatings Corp. lashed out on a social media post. Winston claimed that they made the huge flag out of the tarps they have found in the building. While the company was “very responsive” in taking down the flag, Winston cannot help but question the rhetoric “The American Flag is a symbol of Freedom! Many men and women died to maintain this freedom, many more fought and still fight to keep this freedom, and you make us remove it?

As anti-Confederate sentiments spread across the nation, even religious and historical figures and symbols had become a target of the attack. In a report from Reuters, photos of a vandalized Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. circulated on social media. The words “Yall not tired yet?” were sprayed in the historic landmark.

Fortunately, President Donald Trump had issued an executive order, as he vowed to give anarchists “very long prison time” if they are found guilty of the charges.
