As the coronavirus pandemic took more than 100,000 lives, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi boasted that “every crisis” allowed them to push for the party’s political gain.

On Wednesday’s press conference, Pelosi boasted the Democratic Party’s accomplishment, “We have to open the economy, we have to do so in a way that gives more opportunity for access to care, to credit, to opportunity,” referring to phase four of the coronavirus bill known as the “HEROES Act.” The controversial House Speaker added, “Just as Mr. Clyburn said, this is an opportunity, every crisis is.”

Pelosi shared the same sentiment by her fellow Democrat, US House Majority Whip James Clyburn, who claimed that the $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package was a “tremendous opportunity” for them to “restructure” their political agendas.

Moreover, Pelosi denied that the fourth stimulus bill was partisan, and described it as “disciplined, focused, necessary.” However, contrary to Pelosi’s claims, critics believed that the HEROES Act served more like a Democratic “wishlist” rather than a coronavirus relief bill.

In fact, even other House Democrats reportedly admitted that the $3 trillion and 1,815 pages HEROES Act were partisan in nature. According to an article by Politico, the media outlet cited that several House Democrats complained that “their latest bill feels like little more than an effort to appease the most liberal members of the caucus.” The media outlet revealed that some of them felt that important priorities were either “minimized” or “ignored.”

The bill includes numerous left-wing agendas such as eliminating limitations on the federal deduction for the state and local taxes (SALT) through Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Acts which works in favor of blue states, $500 billion for federal government bailout which had become particularly concerning given that there are fiscally irresponsible states such as California and New York, as well as designating funding for mandatory early voting for every state and mandatory mail-in ballots despite objections and concerns from the Republican party, due to its susceptibility to voter fraud.

In addition, Pelosi gave pellets of cash for numerous education systems which are not directly affected by the coronavirus, including $1.7 billion for historically black colleges, $20 million for Howard University, $11 Gallaudet University, $11 million for the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, and up to $10,000 loan for Department of Education borrowers.

Just this week, the Republicans in Congress pushed back against the House Speaker. In fact, GOP politicians sued Pelosi for defying a “231-Year constitutional tradition” over the party’s decision to cast their votes remotely.

Otherwise known as “proxy voting,” the system allows members of the congress to designate a “fellow House member to vote on their behalf. As a result, GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy claimed that the process had violated years of constitutional tradition.
