On Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly bashed President Donald Trump during a conference call with members of the Democratic party. The prominent Dem figure even described the administration’s coronavirus response as “almost sinful.”

During the private call, Pelosi went on to say that the US president was putting countless lives in danger over his plan to reopen the economy at the end of April. According to a report from a media outlet, Politico, the House Speaker made numerous jabs at Trump. Pelosi particularly highlighted the administration’s promise to provide mass testing for coronavirus.

While the country had been conducting more than 140,000 tests in the past seven days, the House Speaker was having none of it. She even criticized Trump’s inability to provide adequate supplies of personal protective equipment for medical workers.

Most importantly, Pelosi poked fun at the administration and described Trump’s coronavirus response as “almost sinful.” The House Speaker even went on to say that “The more misrepresentations he puts out there, the more it obscures the truth.” Aside from implying that the president’s statements were all lies, Pelo urged that “We have to insist upon the truth—what they’re saying is not knowledge, is not facts, is not real.”

Throughout the two-hour call, Pelosi continued to bash the president, saying that it would be “impossible” for the president to assure the American public that they can safely reopen the economy, without a solid plan for mass testing, and contact tracing. The House speaker went on over and over again that it is up to the members of her party to point out the administration’s mistake.

In fact, she even went on to describe the administration as a “complete failure” to implement national testing and provide the necessary PPEs. She also advised her caucus, “we cannot let them lie about it.” The House Speaker’s intense criticisms came as a response to Trump’s plan to reopen the staggering American economy on May 1, much to the chagrin of the Democratic party.

As proposed by Rep. Jamie Raskin, the Democrats will ask each state to pass a detailed plan on how they can safely reopen businesses and schools. Democrats also urged states not to immediately follow Trump’s orders, and instead, consult with the Department of Health and Human Services.

Rep. Raskin claimed that all Trump did was to “veer” away from issues, jumping from one “talking points” to another, without providing a solid “national plan.” The congressman said, “basically, we’ve been operating without a national plan.”

However, what the Democrats wanted to do was encourage governors to defy Trump’s orders. Trump had also personally addressed the issue in his social media posts. “Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governor’s decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government.” The president also added that “Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect.” Trump clarified that as president, he has the power to make the decision. The president also assured the American public that he had been working closely with governors to come up with the decision.
