ABC News host David Wright had been suspended after a leaked video by Project Veritas showed the high-profile host making comments against his own news network and insulting President Donald Trump.

In the video, a man approached Wright and asked him to comment on Socialist Democrat Bernie Sanders’s New Hampshire Victory. In the footage, Wright said: “I feel terrible about it. I feel that the truth suffers, the voters are poorly informed, and people also have the opportunity to tune into whatever they want to hear.”

Project Veritas describes themselves as “a conservative whistleblower watchdog group”, and has been known for exposing media biases in corporate media. In their video, Wright also accused ABC News of not letting them do their “job.” He continued, “And so, it’s like there’s no upside, or our bosses don’t see an upside in doing the job we’re supposed to do, which is to speak truth to power and hold people accountable.”

Wright continued, “I would consider myself a socialist like I think there should be national health insurance,” he said. “I’m totally fine with reining in corporations, I think they’re too many billionaires, and I think there’s a wealth gap—that’s a problem.” Moreover, Wright claimed that the network had become a “promotion center” saying, “You can’t watch ‘Good Morning America’ without there being a Disney princess or a Marvel avenger appearing.”

Off-camera, Wright can be heard calling Trump a “dick” and comparing him to an angry wife. In the voice recording, Wright added, “We don’t hold [Trump] hin into account. We also don’t give him credit for the thing he does do.”

The Project Veritas also released another footage from an ABC producer, Andy Fies who said, “How can people like Donald Trump? How can people understand? You know f*ck cross the Hudson River and come out and spend more time, and you’ll hear why.”

As a disciplinary action, ABC News has suspended Wright after the host complained on how the network presents its news. In their official statement, ABC News wrote, “Any action that damages our reputation for fairness and impartiality or gives the appearance of compromising it harms ABC News and the individuals involved.” The rep said, “David Wright has been suspended, and to avoid any possible appearance of bias, he will be reassigned away from political coverage when he returns.”

Wright’s camp defended his statements by putting the blame on Project Veritas. “Wright and the producer didn’t know who they were talking to. Didn’t know they were being recorded,” the insider said. “The person introduced himself as a documentary filmmaker and didn’t say he was recording.”

Currently, Wright was the third “high-profile” suspension case that ABC had given. One of the most recent cases happened in 2018 when the media outlet suspended Brian Ross for an erroneous story on Michael Flynn while Matt Gutman had also been suspended in January for claiming that all of Kobe Bryant’s daughter had died in the plane crash.
