The latest Billboard magazine features a full-page Planned Parenthood ad that is supported by 136 musicians including Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Katy Perry, John Legend, and Foo Fighters. The musicians are declaring their support for Planned Parenthood by protesting laws in states that restrict abortion.

The ad reads:

Freedom is at the foundation of music: Through music we have the power to create, to be who were are as individuals, to speak and live our truth. Access to sexual and productive health care is about the same freedom. Because no one is free unless they control their own body. Right now our bodies are under attack in this county. Sweeping bans on access to safe, legal abortion are stripping away our freedoms. Now is the time to band together and say keep your bans off our bodies.

The U.S.’s largest abortion provider’s goal is to get 500,000 signatures by January 22, 2020, the 47th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Planned Parenthood, which receives $500 million annually from the government, will be present at music festivals such as Jay Z’s Made in America in Philadelphia and Music Midtown in Atlanta to convince concert goers that abortion bans are harmful.

Singer Ariana Grande donated $250,000 from her summer Georgia concerts to the abortion provider.

President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Alexis McGill Johnson stated, “Abortion access and reproductive health and rights are under attack like never before, and we need everyone to fight back. These bans do not represent the will of the American people, which is why so many powerful, diverse voices are speaking out against them. Planned Parenthood is grateful to these artists for using their incredible platforms to declare that our bodies are our own - if they are not, we can never be truly free or equal. With their help, Planned Parenthood and our supporters will keep fighting to ensure that our patients - and people across the country - can still access reproductive and sexual health care, no matter what.”

In its annual report, Planned Parenthood revealed that they performed 328,348 abortions between 2015 to 2016, but the organization only handed out 2,889 adoption referrals, which is one adoption referral for every 114 abortions. Maybe they should change their name to Planned Abortions, what do you think?
